![]() The tech that Microsoft wanted from Skype is being used in other services like Teams and Xbox Live messaging. Skype for Business has transitioned to Microsoft Teams. That's not why the company drove it into the ground, but it's downfall isn't that big of a loss. Microsoft doesn't need Skype to succeed as a consumer service. Source: Dan Thorp-Lancaster / Windows Central (Image credit: Source: Dan Thorp-Lancaster / Windows Central) Microsoft could fix every single issue with Skype, but it wouldn't matter much if people have already left. Once people leave a platform for communication, the platform loses value. What else could it be? It's time to cut loose and move on. If after years of failed attempts to rebrand and rebuild Skype, Microsoft is unable to improve even the most basic aspects of the service, there must be something fundamentally wrong with it. It just doesn't feel good to send texts over Skype-based services, watching the app struggle to open even on the world's most powerful PCs and phones, while Telegram and WhatsApp, and crucially, Discord, all open at a mere instant. I'm not quite sure why, but it's absurd to me that, in 2021, Skype and Xbox Live messaging services lag behind the competition in speed. When Microsoft was in the running to purchase Discord, our senior editor Jez Corden discussed some of the issues with Skype: Skype has a long history of inconsistency. ![]() People didn't just switch from Skype to Zoom and WhatsApp to go with a trend. Kit Harington will eventually return to the MCU as Dane Whitman/Black Knight, but until that happens, we’re left to speculate on what to expect from him and any adventures he may have. Until then, learn what the MCU is sending to the big screen with our upcoming Marvel movies guide, and catch up on past MCU movies over on Disney+.2008 was a great year for anime. I can only begin to guess what that means exactly, but I can already tell you I’m loving the fact I don’t know where Marvel is going with it just about as much as everything. ![]() Another thing that’s cool, however, is vampirism, and there’s apparently a tie between Blade, Dane Whitman’s Black Knight and the Ebony Blade that looks as though it will be explored in the MCU. Spies are cool, that’s just an objective fact. It’s even cooler if we look into the two’s history in Marvel Comics, as they both worked for MI-13. Mahershela Ali’s incoming MCU character is heard speaking to Whitman in a brief scene in Eternals, which is cool by itself. Wolverine’s been carrying the X-Men for years, and you can bet your ass Black Knight gets more than a few cool points tallied on his resume for his association with Blade. There are some characters in the Marvel universe who are so cool they make other Marvel heroes cool by association. (Image credit: Marvel Comics) Black Knight Works With Blade Unfortunately, Percy's not too much happier than Whitman, which has to be a crappy consolation that not even death can undo the effects of the curse. Now Percy's dead and offers advice to Dane Whitman whenever he’s asked, but also sometimes when he’s not asked. He also was kind of duped into the whole curse of the Ebony Blade thanks to Merlin not being all that upstanding of an individual. In reality, Percy worked as Merlin’s agent, playing the fool in order to avoid the suspicion that he was the all-powerful and excessively violent Black Knight.Īs one would think, Percy’s day-to-day life wasn’t all that fun. Percy was a cousin of King Arthur, known by the king and associates as a coward. For now, I can say that Whitman is no stranger to hearing a disembodied voice, as he’s haunted by the ghost of the original Black Knight, Sir Percy of Scandial. No, that wasn’t a ghost Dane Whitman spoke to at the end of Marvel’s Eternals, and we’ll get into that a little bit later. (Image credit: Marvel Comics) Dane Whitman Can Talk To A Ghost I guess it would be nice if his life was easy, but the fact that his character is doomed to misery does help make him more dynamic than I would’ve assumed he was at first impression. ![]() Every success is a hollow victory, and sometimes even saving the day comes at a cost that’s hard to bear. ![]() With that being said, more current iterations of The Black Knight play on the fact that Dane Whitman hates being miserable and is in constant war with himself on trying to improve his life while still being a useful hero to the Avengers and other superhero teams.ĭane Whitman’s curse that will eventually drive him closer to evil is what makes him so entertaining, because like tortured heroes like Batman, he’s fighting a losing battle. Want to connect a second monitor for the MacBook Air? It’s possible with a dual HDMI adapter, which allows for one 4K display at 60 Hz and another 4K display at 30 Hz. Simply route the external monitor through the adapter and you’re good to go. In this case, you will need to use an adapter, like the ThinkPad Universal Thunderbolt 4 Dock. This can present an issue if your external monitor only supports a USB-A cable. It is important to check the ports on your MacBook to determine whether you need an adapter – the MacBook M1 Pro 16” has a built-in Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) port, while the MacBook Air 13” has a Thunderbolt 3 port. It is worth knowing that a Thunderbolt port will support a standard USB-C cable, so don’t worry if one of your external monitors comes with one. By contrast, a standard USB-C port has only half the transfer and running power, making it a less impressive prospect. Known as “the port to end all ports”, Thunderbolt 4 is the fastest data transfer standard today, allowing for speeds of up to 40 GB/s, and has the power to run two 4K displays at the same time. Using a USB port on the MacBook Pro for a second monitor is all about Thunderbolt 4. Thunderbolt versus USB-C: what’s the difference? When would someone write a holographic will? It must be entirely handwritten and will only be valid until one year after the member is discharged from the service, one year after the person ceased serving with or accompanying the armed force, or three years after made by a mariner at sea. In New York, a holographic will is valid only if it is made by a member of the United States Armed Forces “while in actual military or naval service during war, declared or undeclared, or other armed conflict” by “a person who serves with or accompanies an armed force” so engaged or by a mariner at sea. In Maryland, a holographic will made outside of the United States by a member of the United States Armed Forces will be recognized until one year after the member is discharged from the service. Also, a holographic will that has been admitted to probate in a state that recognizes holographic wills may be recognized in Alabama, Delaware, Iowa, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oregon, or Rhode Island, if it also disposes of property in one of these states. Holographic wills made in one of the above states may also be recognized in the following states: Connecticut, Hawaii, South Carolina, Washington, and Wisconsin. A few states also require that the will be dated (California, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, and Nevada). ![]() ![]() Of course, it will be helpful to know how to write a will using appropriate language commonly used in wills. ![]() If only the material provisions need to be handwritten, it may be possible to use a last will and testament form that has blanks for the testator to handwrite in such provisions. Some of these require that the entire will be in the testator’s handwriting, while others only require that the material provisions (that is, the provisions that designate the property and who is to receive it) be in the testator’s handwriting. Holographic wills are only valid if made in one of the following states (but requirements may vary from state to state): Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana (where it is called an olographic testament), Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming. The validity of a will is a matter of state law. If a handwritten will meets all of the legal requirements for a typed will (such as being witnessed or notarized), it is a valid will, but it is not a holographic will. Wills were in existence long before computers and word processing programs, and long before typewriters. Handwritten wills that are written by the person making the will (called the testator), and have not been witnessed or notarized, are called holographic wills. But, what if you find yourself in a situation where there are no witnesses available? Or, what if you come across a handwritten will of someone who has died? Can such wills be valid? What is a holographic will? Preparing a will is typically done by printing out the will in a format that complies with state law regarding such things as the number of witness signatures required, notary provisions, etc. |
